Trump: Will Escort Ships With Allies in the Strait of Hormuz
BlockBeats News, March 14th: Trump posted on Truth Social stating that many countries, especially those affected by Iran's attempt to block the Strait of Hormuz, will send warships with the United States to ensure the strait's openness and security. We have completely destroyed Iran's military capability, but even in their heavy defeat, they can still easily send one or two drones, deploy sea mines, or launch short-range missiles along the coast or within the strait of Hormuz. It is hoped that countries such as France, Japan, South Korea, the UK, and others affected by this artificial blockade will send warships to the region to free the Strait of Hormuz from the threat of this completely destroyed country. Meanwhile, the United States will fiercely bombard the coastline and continue to sink Iranian ships. In any case, we will eventually restore the strait of Hormuz to openness, safety, and freedom!
According to PolyBeats monitoring, the probability on the Polymarket prediction market of "Will the US escort merchant ships through Hormuz before March 31?" has slightly increased to 37%, but there has been an overall lack of response to Trump's statement.
Currently, the US military's escort in Hormuz faces multiple constraints, repeatedly stating but failing to take action, reflecting its willingness but lack of actual capability on this issue. The narrowest part of the Strait of Hormuz is less than 40 kilometers wide, and the nearshore depth of the strait is generally less than 25 meters. The narrow waterway weakens the US military's technological advantage. Meanwhile, Iran still possesses various nearshore harassment and attack means, including drones and missiles. A cheap drone costs only $35,000, but it costs the US military between $50 and $400 million to intercept one. Iran has the upper hand in the Strait of Hormuz, and the US does not have good options.
